Imagine a virtuoso mandolinist who occasionally raps and an award winning singer-songwriter who plays bass with his feet and you start to get an idea of how Chris Emerson and Ty Bennett approach roots music. Chris and Ty are founding members of the newgrass band Candlewyck, a group that exemplifies their adventurous spirit by blending rock, jazz and pop with bluegrass and has often drawn critical praise and comparisons to New Grass Revival and Nickel Creek. Emerson and Bennett have recently released a self-titled recording as a duo to experiment with a more stripped down sound. With songs from the hilarious,” She’s Like Firewood In Florida" and the poetic, "Damn, Pollyanna" to the achingly sad, "Hard To Hold On", Ty Bennett is a true craftsman who's writing is at once clever, heartfelt, and intellectual both lyrically and musically. Chris Emerson's precise soloing and exceptional rhythmic technique make his style instantly recognizable. Chris and Ty have worked with renowned artists such as John Cowan, Jon Randall, David Ragsdale, David Grier, Jim Van Cleve, Shawn Lane, Don Rigsby and Jens Kruger to name a few. They have also shared the stage with notable talents Tony Rice, Peter Rowan, Darrell Scott, John Cowan, Roger Alan Wade, Verlon Thompson, Avett Brothers and others.
