From The Board Room:

Hello owners and friends of the co-op! The
Board has been meeting weekly since early Fall diligently working
on our financing campaign through owner notes, working on a Main
Street energy grant for the roof, skylights, windows, and
insulation, and exploring additional opportunities to complement and
to take advantage of the capital created through loans from our
owners.
Several of us had a very productive meeting
last week with a representative of the USDA here in North Carolina
to discuss some of the programs and possibilities offered by the
USDA through the Rural Development program.
Additionally, last week, we met with P. J.
Hoffman, a grocery floor plan designer, to firm up the floor plan in
preparation for the new roof - the first step in renovation and
upfit.

Interesting Tidbits:
Burlington Christmas Parade
Thank you to everyone who came out to watch the 2009
Burlington Christmas Parade with us. What a beautiful day for a
parade! We hope you enjoyed
the coffee, supplied by the newly opened Perk-O-Later Coffee Shop at
132 E. Davis St. in downtown Burlington. And the sugar cookies from
Just Deserts located in the courthouse square in Graham. We posted a
quick video snipit of the parade at
www.youtube.com/companyshops. As you can see from the video, the
parade starts at Lexington and Front St, and goes right by the co-op
building. We would love for this to be an annual tradition so we
hope we'll see you there again next year.

It was a pleasure to see all of you last Friday at
the Holiday Magic event held in downtown Burlington. In case you are
wondering where the delicious cookies came from, we have CSM owner

chip and oatmeal cookies.

Meet Your
Producers Series Begins: This is our inaugural post featuring farmers and local food
produces located here in Alamance County and the surrounding
area. We at the co-op feel it is of great importance to take
advantage of the healthy local food that is abundantly available
here in North Carolina. The producers
profiled in this series have expressed interest in
participating in the local supplier program for the co-op once it opens.
We recently sent out an invitation to our prospective local
producers to participate in this series and the very first
person to respond was Max Lloyd of Grove Winery, so we will
start of with him:
|
Meet Your
Producers:
Meet Max Lloyd of Grove Winery:

A brief introduction to Max Lloyd and his passion for wine:
Max Lloyd has been involved in the wine industry since 1993. He has
extensively toured many of the world’s better wine countries, judged
wine competitions and has taught a number of wine and grape themed
classes. His writing and comments have appeared in a number of
industry publications including Wine Business Monthly and Small
Winery Magazine. A successful serial entrepreneur, he along with his
wife Denise own Grove Winery. Since 2005, wines made by Mr. Lloyd
from North Carolina and Virginia grapes have won more than 80 medals
in local and international competitions.
Tell us a little about what you produce:
Grove Winery is a 44 acre farm located north of Elon in the Haw
River Valley that grows and produces Grove and Chinqua Penn brands
of wine. Denise and I are the owners.
What prompted you get involved with Company Shops Market?
We at Grove believe that Company Shops Market can be the foundation
of the growing local food movement in the Haw River Valley.
Where can we purchase your products locally?
Our products can be purchased online at
GroveWinery.com
or at the winery. The winery is open daily until 6pm for tastings
and purchases.
